This paper develops in detail a theory that is a natural hybrid of Kaluza’s five-dimensinal theory and Weyl’s four-dimensional, multi-metric, conformal theory. It is truer to the actual origin of the theory than is the description in Time, the Grand Illusion. That paper explained how space-time arises from space by way of a simple geometric construction on the four-dimensional manifold of two-spheres in euclidean three-space, and how the analogous construction applied to the five-dimensional manifold of three-‘spheres’ in minkowskian space-time produces space-time–time.
