Math 6280, Advanced Algebraic Topology,
Fall 09
Instructor:
Dr. Markus Pflaum
Course Contents:
Introduces elements of topological K-theory and higher homotopy theory. As major results it
will be shown that K-theory forms a generalized cohomology theory and that complex K-theory
satisfies Bott periodicity. Examples and applications of K-theory will be provided.
Syllabus
Lecture Hours and Venue:
MWF 9:00 a.m. - 9:50 p.m., DUAN G1B35.
Assignments:
Several problems will be assigned in the course. Every student has
to write a paper on a certain number of these problems.
The solution papers will be graded.
Course Notes
The Grothendieck Group of a Commutative Monoid
Course Grading:
Your grade will be determined from the graded problem solutions.
